The Van Buren High School Art Club sponsored its “Empty Bowls” annual event and the bowls were overflowing. Annually the Art Club, sponsored by Kara Holland, has created wonderful bowls that are used for this special Event. Art Club students create their own unique bowls and tickets are sold for the event.
Many volunteers are involved that include the Art Club students, facility, and staff to make this a fun filled evening. Tickets are sold in advance or at the door. Students help guests select a special bowl for their homemade soup with fresh bread and then assist guests in finding a seat at one of the many crowded tables. Once the guest finishes his/her dinner the bowl is sent off to be washed and returned as a keepsake of the evening. In addition special pieces have been created for auction and other pieces are made available for purchase.
The proceeds from this event are given to the Community Services Clearinghouse to purchase needed food items for the Meal for Kids (Back Pack Program) and the food pantry. This year the students presented the Clearinghouse with a check for $2,889.
The Clearinghouse on behalf of our clients and kids would like to send out a huge “THANK YOU” to all of you who made this a special evening for not only those who attended but for those that these funds will assist over the coming weeks.
We are all looking forward to the unique bowls we’ll see next year.
